Pleasing the crowd - Mark 15:1-15

Pontius Pilate condemned Jesus in order to satisfy the crowd (vs. 15). He feared that they might break out into a riot and thereby jeopardize his reputation and career.

This trial thrust Pilate onto center stage of the most important event in world history. The spotlight beamed upon him, awaiting his decision. We look with disgust at his cowardice and forget that most men would have acted no differently.

Thankfully, amidst a sea of unfaithful cowards in Mark's gospel, there is one person who actually is faithful and courageous. Jesus Christ alone is faithful to the Father, even though this was neither safe nor easy. He boldly went to the cross for the salvation of unfaithful cowards like you and I.

*Questions for Reflection & Discussion:

1. How have you been tempted to sacrifice what is right for what is easy?

2. Jesus always did what was right, even when difficult. What does His obedience have to do with us?

3. How is God making you more like Jesus and less like Pilate? What is He using to do this?
