What would jesus say about our church? persevere! - Revelation 3:7-13

Perseverance... Jesus' main point in the letter to the church in Philadelphia is that they should continue to persevere in the faith because He will soon vindicate them before their enemies and reward them greatly.

Vindication... The Philadelphia Christians will be vindicated as being right when Christ causes their enemies to bow down before them (vs. 9) and when He protects them amidst God's judgment upon the unbelieving world (vs. 10).

Reward... Jesus tells the Philadelphia Christians that if they continue to hold fast to the faith, that He will make them a pillar in the temple of His God and write on them the name of His God, the name of the city of His God, and His own new name. In other words, Jesus will give them a secure place in heaven and they will forever belong to Him.

*Questions for Reflection & Discussion:

1. "True faith is persevering faith." What does this statement mean?

2. Have you ever felt tempted to stop following Christ? What tempted you? How did you overcome the temptation?

3. How should the knowledge that we will one day be vindicated as Christians bring change to your life right now?
