be extravagant - mark 14:1-9

Just days before Jesus was to be crucified, a woman (likely Mary the sister of Lazarus) poured out an extremely expensive bottle of ointment upon Jesus' head. Her actions were criticized as being wasteful and extravagant. However, Jesus defends her deed as being beautiful.

Jesus knew that Mary had her heart set upon what was most important - loving Him. She set an excellent example of devotion by letting the full vent of her love be shown. She did not worry about what others would think of her or about what was practical, she just adored Jesus and gave Him her best.

Jesus gave her one of the greatest commendations ever given when He said, "...wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her" (vs. 9).

1. What does extravagant love for Jesus look like in your life?

2. In what ways do you need to be less inhibited in showing your love for Jesus?

3. What has the Lord used in your life to strengthen your love for Him?
