Experience Real Joy - I John 1:1-4
Introduction to I John... This book was written by the Apostle John to churches across Asia Minor. John's goal in writing was the protection of Christians from the errors of false Christians who had left the church. These false Christians were teaching a new theology that reinvented Jesus and were leading people into a loveless immorality.
Eyewitnesses to Jesus' Life... John makes clear that he and the other apostles proclaim the true Jesus whom they have really experienced with their own eyes, ears, and hands- not one that is made up in the minds of false christians.
John's Purpose... The Apostle John was eager to proclaim the true message of Christ so that his hearers would have fellowship with the apostles and with the Father and the Son and so that they might all have joy that is complete.
*Questions for Discussion:
1. Who are some contemporary examples of false Christians that seek to lead others astray?
2. Have you ever attempted to know God without the Scripture? Why can this not work?
3. Are you experiencing true happiness and joy because of your relationship with Christ? What hinders this?
