walking in the light - I John 1:5-2:2

The First Lie about Sin... The false Christians that John was seeking to protect his churches from were spreading two false ideas about sin. First, they argued that sin was no hindrance to their fellowship with God (1:6). Such and idea is completely wrong- we cannot claim to have fellowship with the God who is light while we walk in darkness.

The Second Lie about Sin... Secondly, these false Christians argued that they were without sin (1:8 & 10). Such an idea is merely self-deception that makes God out to be a liar and renders the death of Christ meaningless.

The Truth about Sin... We do not benefit from ignoring, hiding, or denying our sin. However, when we honestly confess our sins and trust in Jesus who died for us, we can know for sure that God Forgives us (1:9).

*Questions for Discussion:

1. How have you been guilty of ignoring, hiding, or denying sin? Why is this foolish?

2. When we walk in the Light we will be transparent about our sin. Why is this so difficult for most people?

3. How can we learn to be more transparent?
