November 12, 2021 – Psalms 81-86

The psalmist declares, “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord!” (84:12) A question comes to my mind: Why? Why does the one who trusts in the Lord find him or herself blessed? Well, consider these declarations from the psalms that immediately follow.

  • Because he feeds his people with the finest of the wheat and with honey from the rock. (81:16)

  • Because he is our shield. (84:11)

  • Because he forgives our iniquities and covers our sins. (85:2)

  • Because he is good and forgiving. (86:5)

  • Because there is none like him, and no one does works like his. (86:8)

  • Because he is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. (86:15)

And that’s just scratching the surface! Oh my, all that we have in our God! So simple, but so profound are these lyrics:

God is so good,

God is so good,

God is so good,

He’s so good to me.

He cares for me,

He cares for me,

He cares for me,

He’s so good to me. -- Paul Makai (c. 1970)
