The ark of the covenant was brought into the tent that David had prepared for it. The ark had been carried through the wilderness. The people had faced many dangers. The people had even, at various times, rejected the Lord and followed after idols. Still, God was faithful and, now, the ark of his presence was set up in the midst of the people. David had every reason to rejoice and give thanks, and he sang:
8 Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name;
make known his deeds among the peoples!
9 Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell of all his wondrous works!
10 Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
11 Seek the LORD and his strength;
seek his presence continually!
12 Remember the wondrous works that he has done,
his miracles and the judgments he uttered (16:8-12).
We, likewise, say, “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).
I will sing of my Redeemer
and his wondrous love to me;
on the cruel cross he suffered,
from the curse to set me free.
Sing, O sing of my Redeemer!
With his blood he purchased me;
on the cross he sealed my pardon,
paid the debt, and made me free. -- P. P. Bliss (1876)
