December 22, 2025 - Isaiah 2

So, another year is almost past and we have worked our way to the end of Revelation.  Ten days still remain in 2025.  The prophet Isaiah is well known for his prophecies concerning the Messianic King.  Why don’t we take a look at some of those!  Probably most people do not think of chapter 2 as messianic, but hear what Isaiah says:

      It shall come to pass in the latter days

that the mountain of the house of the LORD

      shall be established as the highest of the mountains,

and shall be lifted up above the hills;

      and all the nations shall flow to it,

and many peoples shall come, and say:

      “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,

to the house of the God of Jacob,

      that he may teach us his ways

and that we may walk

      in his paths.”

For out of Zion shall go forth the law,

      and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. (2:2-3)

The “latter days” often refers to the time of Messiah (Hosea 3:5).  Also, right here in the book of Isaiah, chapter 11 tells of one who, as “a shoot from the stump of Jesse” (11:4) will come and establish his kingdom of peace to which the nations will stream.  The prophecy of chapter 11 clearly echoes the promise to David (2 Samuel 7) of a descendant, the One whom we know as “The Son of David” (Matthew 1:1, 9:27, 31:9; Mark 10:47; Luke 18:38).  What glorious things the prophets speak of!

Behold! the mountain of the Lord

in latter days shall rise

on mountain tops above the hills,

and draw the wondering eyes.

To this the joyful nations round,

all tribes and tongues, shall flow;

up to the hill of God, they’ll say,

and to his house we'll go.

The beam that shines from Zion hill

shall lighten every land;

the King who reigns in Salem’s towers

shall all the world command.   --John Logan & Michael Bruce (1796)
