December 8, 2024 - Revelation 2:18-29

To the church at Thyatira . . . Like all of us, there was good and bad.  The Son of God to the church:  “I know your works, your love and faith and service and patient endurance, and that your latter works exceed the first.  But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel” (2:19-20).  The Lord assures that he will deal with this false prophetess who leads so many astray, and those who have followed her will face the same judgment.  But there were those who did not fall to her temptations or follow her heresies.  Surely, God has much to say to them.  But, no, only this:  “I do not lay on you any other burden.  Only hold fast what you have until I come (2:24-25). You know, the Christian life, though a struggle in this fallen world, comes down to something quite simple:  Hold fast to the Lord.

The Holy Spirit speaks today,

In God's eternal word,

Ye sinners, take the living way,

And travel on to God.

The Holy Spirit speaks today,

In God's eternal word,

Ye saints, keep in the living way,

‘Twill lead you on to God.   -- Flavil Hall (1921)
