February 1, 2024 - Leviticus 13-15

Years ago, Francis Schaeffer wrote How Should We Then Live?  The Rise and Decline of Western Thought and Culture.  How are we to live?  A great question!  Here’s the thing, the Lord told Israel how they were to live, especially if they wished to remain in fellowship with him. And he has also told us how to live.  In these chapters of Leviticus, instructions are given as to how to treat leprosy, the purification of lepers and where they were to live, and other health and hygiene matters.  Some will look at all these instructions and conclude that they are burdensome and not particularly helpful.  Oh no, these given to Israel and all those given to us are given for our benefit and our flourishing.  Human knowledge has increased, and the manner in which we treat diseases and do so many things has changed over the centuries.  We are grateful to our God for showing us these things.  But we must never forget the big picture, that is, that the Creator desires that his creatures prosper.

He my refuge is, my fortress,

I will put my trust in him;

While his own strong arm upholds me,

Never shall my faith grow dim.

He shall cover thee with his feathers

And under his wings shalt thou trust;

He shall cover thee with his feathers

And under his wings shalt thou trust.   -- C. Austin Miles (1904)
