January 8, 2026 - Genesis 18-21

Abraham and Sarah sure seemed to be slow learners, didn’t they?  They just had a hard time truly believing God.  One year before Isaac’s birth, they continued to doubt, and “The LORD said to Abraham, ‘Why did Sarah laugh and say, Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the LORD?” (18:13-14).  I think of others:  Elijah who despaired even though God promised to protect him, Jeremiah who questioned even though God had told him he would keep him, the disciples who so often, having heard the promises of Jesus, still doubted, and so many more.  But is anything too hard for our God?  Of course, the answer is “No!”  And so, in every moment of life, we rest in him and his good promises.  And perhaps that’s all that needs to be written, this morning (Maybe some thoughts on Sodom and Gomorrah, another day.)

Be still for the power of the Lord

Is moving in this place

He comes to cleanse and heal

To minister His grace

No work too hard for Him

In faith receive from Him

Be still for the power of the Lord

Is moving in this place

Be still for the power of the Lord

Is moving in this place.   --David Evans (1986)
