July 3, 2026 - Isaiah 32-35

“Behold, a king will reign in righteousness,

and princes will rule in justice.

Each will be like a hiding place from the wind,

      a shelter from the storm,

like streams of water in a dry place,

like the shade of a great rock in a weary land” (32:1-2).

It seems that Isaiah, with the many prophecies of judgment, is never far from a word concerning the coming king, the Messiah.  For God’s people there will be a hiding place, a shelter, streams of water, and soothing shade.  Isaiah calls out,

‘Strengthen the weak hands,

and make firm the feeble knees.

Say to those who have an anxious heart,

      “Be strong; fear not!

      Behold, your God

      will come with vengeance,

      with the recompense of God.

He will come and save you’” (35:3-4).

There is a Rock in a weary land,

It’s shadow falls on the burning sand,

Inviting pilgrims as they pass

To seek a shade in a wilderness.

There is a Well in a desert plain,

It’s waters call with entreating strain;

“Ho, ev’ry thirsting, sin-sick soul,

Come, freely drink, and thou shalt be whole.”   --W. E. Penn (1887)
