O LORD, I call upon you; hasten to me!
Give ear to my voice when I call to you! (141:1)
With my voice I cry out to the LORD;
with my voice I plead for mercy to the LORD.
I pour out my complaint before him;
I tell my trouble before him (142:1-2).
Hear my prayer, O LORD;
give ear to my pleas for mercy!
In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!
Answer me quickly, O LORD!
My spirit fails!
Hide not your face from me (143:1,7).
Blessed be the LORD, my rock,
who trains my hands for war,
and my fingers for battle;
he is my steadfast love and my fortress,
my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield and he in whom I take refuge (144:1-2).
The LORD upholds all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food in due season (145:14-15).
Getting the gist of David’s words? He is always crying out to God, resting in him, and testifying of his faithfulness. Charles Wesley understood.
O for a thousand tongues to sing
my great Redeemer’s praise,
the glories of my God and King,
the triumphs of his grace!
My gracious Master and my God,
assist me to proclaim,
to spread thro’ all the earth abroad
the honors of your name.
Jesus! the name that calms our fears,
that bids our sorrows cease,
‘tis music in the sinner's ears,
‘tis life and health and peace. –Charles Wesley (1739)
