June 6, 2026 - Psalms 86-90

David’s words are our words.  David’s testimonies are our testimonies.  David’s experiences with God are our experiences with God.  When David pens the following words, we read them and say, “Yes, this is our prayer.  This is our plea.  And, yes, we testify with David that the Lord is good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon him.”

                   Incline your ear, O LORD, and answer me,

      for I am poor and needy.

                   Preserve my life, for I am godly;

      save your servant, who trusts in you—you are my God.

                   Be gracious to me, O Lord,

      for to you do I cry all the day.

                   Gladden the soul of your servant,

      for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

                   For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,

      abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.  (86:1-5)

And with the authors of the hymn, we testify of our great need of the Lord and his goodness.

I need Thee ev’ry hour,

most gracious Lord;

no tender voice like Thine

can peace afford.

I need Thee, O I need Thee;

Ev’ry hour I need Thee;

O bless me now, my Savior,

I come to Thee.   -- Robert Lowry & Annie S. Hawks (1872)

So often, I have referenced Psalm 77 in which Asaph questions God and his faithfulness. He wonders if God has forgotten how to be gracious. He lies awake at night seeking God but cannot find him. S
