June 9, 2025 - Psalms 101-105

David testifies:

      Of old you laid the foundation of the earth,

and the heavens are the work of your hands.

      They will perish, but you will remain;

they will all wear out like a garment.

       You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away,

but you are the same, and your years have no end (102:25-27).

Quick reflections on these verses.  Our God is from everlasting to everlasting.  He, and only he, is eternal.  Our lives in this world are fleeting like the flowers of the field.  We have this assurance, however, that in Christ we will live forever beyond this life.  Jason and his family posted on GroupMe a photo from Canyonlands National Park in Utah.  Year after year, people visit the park and, seemingly, look upon the same rock formations from one year to the next.  The truth, however, is in the formations themselves.  Though taking a long time, those formations, with wind and water and ice, are not what they once were or what they one day will be.  They are beautiful but they are not lasting.  Our God, however, is the ever-living God.

Great God, how infinite art Thou! . . .

Thy throne eternal ages stood,

Ere seas or stars were made;

Thou art the ever-living God,

Were all the nations dead.

Eternity, with all its years,

Stands present in Thy view;

To Thee there’s nothing old appears;

Great God, there’s nothing new.   --Isaac Watts (1707)

Here’s a story I suspect most of us never recall, the story about the daughters of Zelophedad.  Their father had died in the wilderness, and they reminded Moses and the leaders, and asked, “Our father

Throughout the Bible are stories of individuals who step up and stand out from all others.  Once again, this time at Peor, the people followed unholy people and committed idolatry, worshiping Baal.  I
