March 13, 2026 - Judges 13-17

Because of his faithful participation and reporting with the spies sent over into Canaan, Moses had granted Caleb’s request and, now, the promise is fulfilled:  “’So now give me this hill country of which the LORD spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the LORD said.’  Then Joshua blessed him, and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.  Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel” (14:12-14).  Another promise.  Another promise fulfilled.

Lord, Thy Word abideth,

and our footsteps guideth;

who its truth believeth,

light and joy receiveth.

When our foes are near us,

then Thy Word doth cheer us,

Word of consolation,

message of salvation.

When the storms are o’er us,

and dark clouds before us,

then its light directeth,

and our way protecteth.   -- H. W. Baker (1861)
