May 22, 2025 - Psalms 16-20

You know, sometimes, rather than commenting on biblical texts and offering our own thoughts, it seems best just to let the Scripture text speak for itself.  I think, today, I’ll just quote some wonderfully encouraging verses from Psalm 16.  May David’s testimony be mine and, also, that of all of us.  Have a wonderful day in the Lord!

“The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;

you hold my lot.

The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;

indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;

in the night also my heart instructs me.

I have set the Lord always before me;

because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices;

my flesh also dwells secure”  (Psalm 16:5-9).

Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy,

Whose trust, ever child-like, no cares can destroy,

Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray,

Your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day.

Lord of all gentleness, Lord of all calm,

Whose voice is contentment, whose presence is balm,

Be there at our sleeping, and give us, we pray,

Your peace in our hearts, Lord, at the end of the day.   –Jan Struther (1931)
