May 27, 2026 - Psalms 36-40

“Your lovingkindness, O LORD, extends to the heavens, Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.  Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; Your judgments are like a great deep. O LORD, You preserve man and beast” (36:5-6). à What a blessing to know this God!

“Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes” (37:7). à Though, all around us, we see evil men prospering, we do not envy nor are we anxious, and we can wait patiently on the Lord because we know he will make all things right.  This is such a great psalm, which answers so many of our fears and envies.

“How blessed is the man who has made the LORD his trust, And has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood.  Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders which You have done, And Your thoughts toward us; There is none to compare with You” (40:4-5). à More reason to trust and rest in the Lord.

Would you in His kingdom find a place of constant rest?

Would you prove Him true in providential test?

Would you in His service labor always at your best?

Let Him have His way with thee.

His pow’r can make you what you ought to be.

His blood can cleanse your heart and make you free.

His love can fill your soul, and you will see

’twas best for Him to have His way with thee.   --Cyrus S. Nusbaum (1898)
