May 31, 2025 - Psalm 56-60

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,

      for my hope is from him.

He only is my rock and my salvation,

      my fortress; I shall not be shaken.

On God rests my salvation and my glory;

      my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

Trust in him at all times, O people;

      pour out your heart before him;

      God is a refuge for us.  (62:5-8)

Over and over again (I’ve said this so many times!), I am so encouraged by the words and testimonies of the psalmists.  David has faced so many enemies.  He has wrestled against his own sinfulness.  He has searched his own heart and has found himself wanting.  But he knew he could always turn to God and find in him a refuge.  Isn’t that so good to know as we walk through this world?

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,

is laid for your faith in God's excellent Word!

What more can be said than to you God hath said,

to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

“Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,

for I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;

I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,

upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.”  --R. Keen, George Keith (1787)
