The encouragements continue: “Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God” (3:5); “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another” (3:18). There’s more: “For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord” (4:5). And what about, “But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies” (4:7-10). Good stuff here!
My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand:
all other ground is sinking sand;
all other ground is sinking sand. -- Edward Mote (1834)
