September 16, 2022 - Colossians 1-2

Paul writes: “From the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God” (1:9,10). There it is again! That we are to walk and live in a way that is worthy of the Lord and pleasing to him. Of course, we are not on our own in living in this manner, “being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy” (1:11).

And so, with Paul, we encourage one another: “As you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving” (2:6-7). To Jesus Christ we sing and pray:

You only are true life

to know you is to live

the more abundant life

that earth can never give.

O risen Lord! we live in you:

in us each day your life renew! -- Edith Margaret Clarkson (1946)
