September 27, 2025 - John 17

Jesus’ high priestly prayer is found in John 17.  Jesus, the Son of God, prayed for us!  “Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one . . . that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves . . . that you keep them from the evil one . . .”  Jesus prayed these things for his disciples, but not for these only; “also for those who will believe in my through their word” (17:11).  And soon after, Jesus was betrayed and arrested.  Not only his words, but his actions show his great love for us.  He went to the cross to save those for whom he prayed.  You know, I think that’s enough for now; just to know that Jesus prayed for us!  And to know that he continues to intercede for us (Romans 8:34 and Hebrews 7:25)!

Jesus . . .

Let your arms enfold me:

those who try to wound me

cannot reach me here.

Though the earth be shaking,

every heart be quaking,

Jesus calms my fear.

Fires may flash and thunder crash;

yea, though sin and hell assail me,

Jesus will not fail me.   --Johann Franck (1653)
