April 1, 2025 1 King 3-4

In 1 Kings 3-4 The Kingdom of Israel has been transferred into Solomon's hands. By no means was it a perfect transition even still in God’s mercy God asks Solomon a question: “What should I give you?” (3:5). How would you have answered God if he had given you a blank check like he did Solomon? Somethings come to mind of what I might be tempted to ask for.  Winning the lottery so that I don’t have to worry about money again, or becoming a famous TV personality or maybe the most tempting would be to be an astronaut. What would it be for you? I know what it was for Solomon he asked the Lord for wisdom and God gives it to him. The stories that follow show that Solomon had great discernment and understanding and that his wisdom exceeded all who came before and after. Solomon would write later about the importance of wisdom "Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her” (Proverbs 3:13-15). Wisdom is better than the lottery better than fame, better even than being an astronaut.  Want to know something incredible God is still offers this today. James tells us that “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (James 1:5). May we follow Solomon's example and ask God to increase our wisdom to better know, obey and worship our Lord.

After finishing writing this I realized that today is April Fool’s Day. I can’t think of a better day to pray for God’s Wisdom.

Hear Peter’s argument, here.  Christ has suffered and died so that we might no longer live our old lives, rather, that we “might live in the spirit the way God does” (4:6-7).  Furthermore, “the end of
