Amaziah, then Uzziah, who was the king mentioned in Isaiah 6: “In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called out to another and said, ‘Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory’” (6:1-3). Uzziah became strong and, perhaps, some wondered if he was Messiah who would lead the nation to greatness. However, “When he became strong, his heart was so proud that he acted corruptly, and he was unfaithful to the Lord his God” (26:16). People might put trust in kings, political leaders, generals, and all sorts of individuals but that trust is destined to fail. The kings, one after another, died but God remained. Uzziah died but God remained. Great leaders die but God remains. The whole earth is full of his glory.
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.
Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea.
Cherubim and seraphim, falling down before thee,
Who was and is and evermore shall be. --Reginald Heber (1826)
