December 12, 2025 - 2 John

John writes, “Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward” (vs. 8).  Deceivers had gone out into the world, who were teaching falsely about Jesus Christ.  As believers, in every generation, we always must deal with false teaching and opposition to the truth.  And that opposition comes from so many directions.  A thought from the apostle Paul:  “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).  That is, though faced with much opposition, dealing with all sorts of false teachings, and through all the ills we might face in this world, God keeps us.  He will complete the work he has started in us, and he will bring us to heaven to gather with all the saints of every age.  Won’t it be amazing to hear all those stories of how God has kept his people and enabled them to walk faithfully before their God!

O for a closer walk with God,

a calm and heav’nly frame,

a light to shine upon the road

that leads me to the Lamb!

So shall my walk be close with God,

calm and serene my frame;

so purer light shall mark the road

that leads me to the Lamb.   -- William Cowper (1772)
