July 10, 2026 - Isaiah 63-66

Thus says the LORD:

       “Heaven is my throne,

      and the earth is my footstool;

what is the house that you would build for me,

      and what is the place of my rest?

All these things my hand has made,

      and so all these things came to be,

      declares the LORD.

But this is the one to whom I will look:

      he who is humble and contrite in spirit

      and trembles at my word” (66:1-2).

Consider the great contrast!  Heaven is the Lord’s throne and he had made all things.  He needs nothing from us.  We, on the other hand, have every reason to bow before him in humility and with contrite spirits.  Julia Ward Howe, in her great Civil War era hymn, understood God and our place before him.

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;

He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;

He hath loosed the fateful lightning of this terrible swift sword;

His truth is marching on.

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!

His truth is marching on.   –Julia Ward Howe (1862)
