July 6, 2026 - Isaiah 44-48

Isaiah 44 continues a number of chapters in which the glories of God are spoken of.  Isaiah says such things as “Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts:  I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god.  Who is like me? Let him proclaim it” (44:6-7) & “Is there a God besides me?  There is no Rock; I know not any” (44:8) & “Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb:  I am the LORD, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself” (44:24) & “I am the LORD, and there is no other, besides me there is no God” (45:5) & “Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth!  For I am God, and there is no other” (45:22) & “I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose’” (46:9-10) & “The former things I declared of old; they went out from my mouth, and I announced them; then suddenly I did them, and they came to pass” (48:3).  And that’s just a small sample.  What a God we have!

Joyful, joyful, we adore You,

God of glory, Lord of love . . .

All Your works with joy surround You,

Earth and heav’n reflect Your rays,

Stars and angels sing around You,

Center of unbroken praise;

Field and forest, vale and mountain,

Flow’ry meadow, flashing sea,

Chanting bird and flowing fountain

Praising You eternally!   -- Henry Van Dyke (1907)
