June 17, 2025 - Psalms 141-145

“I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands.  I stretch out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land” (143:5,6).  I find myself often pondering God’s works.  Quite frequently, I find myself remembering back over my lifetime (Is this an old age sort of thing?  Shouldn’t be merely that, though.) and reflecting on what the Lord has done, how he has directed my steps here or there, etc.  And I have found, also, that when I think on these things, like the psalmist, I am drawn close to the Lord, who has done so much for me.  Of course, I cannot help but remember, also, how often I have let God down.  Yet, he has persevered with me and has continued to love me and provide for me.  The realization of such things causes me to love him even more.

When morning lights the eastern skies,

Thy mercy, Lord, disclose;

And let Thy loving kindness rise;

On Thee my hopes repose.

On Thee my hopes repose,

On Thee my hopes repose,

And let Thy loving kindness rise;

On Thee my hopes repose.   –Public Domain (1891)

The Bible is full of, though not always conventional, love stories.  The story of Isaac and Rebekah is one.  It’s the story of an arranged marriage – “You will not take a wife for my son from the daug
