June 22, 2023 - Isaiah 2-4

“It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it, and many peoples will come and say: ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.’ For out of Zion shall go the law and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem” (2:1-3).

We have a sure and certain hope right now. Today! We rejoice in the present day, which the Lord has made and given to us. But, with all God’s people of all generations, we find ourselves constantly looking to those “latter days,” those days when all creation will acknowledge God and when his righteousness will prevail. That day is coming, and we will be part of it! Isaiah describes that day in some detail. Among the details, this: “And the haughtiness of man shall be humbled, and the lofty pride of men shall be brought low, and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day” (2:17).

Wow! Throughout the earth, men rebel against God and resist his ways. They spurn his word and create their own religions and philosophies. They ridicule and mock and persecute his people. But God will deal with them. And for his people: “Then the Lord will create over the whole site of Mount Zion and over her assemblies a cloud by day, and smoke and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory there will be a canopy. There will be a booth for shade by day from the heat, and for a refuge and shelter from the storm and rain” (4:5,6)

One day . . . !!!

One day when heaven was filled with His praises,

One day when sin was as black as could be,

Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin,

Dwelt amongst men, my example is He!

One day the trumpet will sound for His coming,

One day the skies with His glory will shine;

Wonderful day my belovèd ones bringing;

Glorious Saviour, this Jesus is mine! --J. Wilbur Chapman (1910)
