Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;
he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
but the LORD made the heavens (96:4-5).
Dr. Kyle Brosseau, new Assistant Professor of Christian Missions and World Religions at Southern Seminary, in a piece on the religions of the world, noted a religion that teaches a strict monotheism whose deity, though one, is conceptualized very differently from the God of the Bible. Though strictly monotheistic, this perception of one god is completely different from him who raised Christ from the dead. And so it is with every false perception of deity whether monotheistic or polytheistic. Moses had put it to Israel like this: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” (Deuteronomy 6:4-5). All other gods are worthless; our God is to praised and feared above all others.
To God be the glory, great things he has done!
So loved he the world that he gave us his Son,
who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
and opened the life-gate that all may go in.
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear his voice!
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son
and give him the glory, great things he has done! --Fanny Crosby (1875)
