May 15, 2024 - Psalms 6-10

David sinned and felt the weight of his sin.  Why else would he cry out to the Lord?  He is beaten down by his sin.  He is desperate.  His desperation even reaches into his bones.  And, apparently, this situation had gone on for some time:  “O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath.  Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled.  My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O Lord” (6:1-30)/.  Even here on the island of Bali, people will tesitify that they have done wrong and that something needs to be done.  David, however, did not put out offerings of flowers and fruits each morning, hoping that the gods would help him.  Rather, he did what all must do; he cried to God and found with him deliverance:  “The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord accepts my prayer”  (6:9).

Precious Lord, take my hand

Lead me on, let me stand

I’m tired, I’m weak, I’m lone

Through the storm, through the night

Lead me on to the light

Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home

When my way grows drear precious Lord linger near

When my light is almost gone

Hear my cry, hear my call

Hold my hand lest I fall

Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home.   --Thomas A. Dorsey (1931)
