“You are my rock and my fortress” (31:3).
“I trust in you, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God’” (31:14).
“How abundant is your goodness” (31:19).
Short declarations yet so full of faith and hope and promise! There’s this, also, these are not statements that all can make or even know to make. These are the testimonies of David who has tasted of God’s goodness and faithfulness and who has been preserved by God time and time again. To know God and his faithfulness! Oh my, surely, this is the greatest blessing in all of life. And here’s another thing, those who have never had the experiences with God that David had, those who have never known sweet fellowship with God, they will not understand. They cannot understand. They think we are foolish. But, then, they do not know what we know, and we who know God, we cry, “You are my God!”
God of our life, through all the circling years,
we trust in you;
in all the past, through all our hopes and fears,
your hand we view.
With each new day, when morning lifts the veil,
we own your mercies, Lord, which never fail. -- Hugh Thomson Kerr (1916)
