May 21, 2025 - Psalms 11-15

I'm not sure what happened. I thought for sure I had posted this, yesterday morning. Oh, well. How about a psalm by psalm thematic take on these psalms, this morning?  All are from David.

Psalm 11 – The Lord is in his holy temple and will bless the righteous and deal with the wicked.

Psalm 12 – The faithful seem to have vanished in David’s day, but on further reflection, he knows that the Lord will keep them and guard them.

Psalm 13 – David ponders that God seems to have forgotten him, but still he trusts in God’s steadfast love.   He knows, even when it seems that God is far off, that the Lord has dealt bountifully with him.

Psalm 14 – How foolish to say in one’s heart that there is no God!

Psalm 15 – Those who obey God can confidently sojourn in the tent of the Lord.

Whatever the circumstances, David finds himself looking to God for help and encouragement.  What a wise man!

Since I have plac’d my trust in God,

a refuge always nigh,

Why should I, like a tim’rous bird,

to distant mountains fly?

The righteous Lord will righteous deeds

with signal favour grace;

And to the upright man disclose

the brightness of his face.   –A selection of Psalms for the congregation (1754)
