May 27, 2023 - Psalms 93-97

Lots of praise toward God and confident hope in him found in these psalms. “”But the Lord has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge” (94:22).

“The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!” (97:1)

How great a contrast with the idols! “For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens” (96:5).

Our God . . . in him we trust: “For you, O Lord, are most high over all the you are exalted far above all gods” (97:1).

The Lord is King! lift up thy voice,

O earth, and all ye heavens, rejoice;

from world to world the joy shall ring,

‘The Lord omnipotent is King!'’

The Lord is King! who then shall dare

resist his will, distrust his care,

or murmur at his wise decrees,

or doubt his royal promises?

He reigns! ye saints, exalt your strains;

your God is King, your Father reigns;

and he is at the Father’s side,

the Man of love, the Crucified. --Josiah Conder (1836)
