September 15, 2025 - Luke 5-8

After the healing of the paralyzed man, who was lowered through the roof by his friends, everyone who saw was amazed and in awe and said, “We have seen extraordinary things today” (5:26).  The people around Jesus, day after day, saw amazing things happen.  The Gospel accounts are full of amazing stories.  In another place, Jesus said to Nathanael, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these” (John 1:50).  And to his disciples, on another occasion, he said, “For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel” (John 5:20).

And on still another occasion, to Thomas and Philip:  “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father” (John 14:12).  I find myself wanting to pray, “Father, let me see these greater works today!”

To God be the glory, great things He hath done,

so loved He the world that He gave us His Son,

who yielded His life an atonement for sin,

and opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,

let the earth hear His voice!

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,

let the people rejoice!

O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,

and give Him the glory, great things He hath done.   –Fanny Crosby (1875)
