2 Timothy is one of those Pauline letters that has such a personal touch to it. He is writing to young Timothy. He appears to know Timothy’s family well: “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well” (1:5). Salvation is never simply inherited as a family matter, from parent to child. But there is a sense in which it is passed down from generation to generation in a family. My family moved from Georgia to Florida into a multi-generation house of Grandma and Grandpa, Dad and Mom, and myself and Jim and Sherry Jane. And there, in particular, Grandma and Grandpa, two of the most godly and loving people I have ever known, showed me Christ, took me to sit under gospel preaching, at Mulberry First Baptist Church, and talked to me about the gospel. Thank the Lord for godly parents and grandparents!
