“Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the LORD delivers them in times of trouble. The LORD protects and preserves them—they are counted among the blessed in the land—he does not give them over to the desire of their foes” (41:1-2). à A reminder that God cares for the poor and that we should, also.
“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” (42:1-2). à We often find ourselves eager to get somewhere or for some event to arrive. “I wish Christmas would get here.” “I can’t wait for school to get out.” You know how it is. The sons of Korah, though, want to know, “When can I meet with God?” Oh, that such would be our longings!
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom” (45:6). à Kingdoms and governments fall and are no more. We see it all around us. God’s kingdom, however, is eternal, and we are citizens of it!
Jesus, priceless treasure,
source of purest pleasure,
friend most sure and true:
long my heart was burning,
fainting much and yearning,
thirsting, Lord, for you.
Yours I am, O spotless Lamb,
so will I let nothing hide you,
seek no joy beside you! --Johann Franck (1653)
